The spirit of surf.

The Jose Cuervo Spirit of Surf Challenge awards six lucky winners and their friends a once-in-a-lifetime day at the Surf Ranch with Gerry Lopez. This was our submission.

Surfing isn’t always sunny days and warm water, bikinis and beach cruisers.

For some of us, it’s hours in the truck, marine layer, and wind swell. It’s thick neoprene, coffee extra hot, and getting stoked over the smallest wave. It's days when the rain won’t quit, the swell isn’t right, the ocean swallows you up and spits you out, and you almost set the back of your truck on fire making fajitas on a cheap camp stove even though everything is soaked through.

But here’s the thing. There’s something special about those days.

They teach us to create our own joy, to laugh at the chaos, and love the little things. That's why we're celebrating the moments between the moments—the preparation, the anticipation. Because sometimes, the jokes you crack in the car and the memories you make scoping out waves are just as good as the perfect barrels.
